On this blog, I use the same rating system that is employed over on Goodreads – the 5-star rating system, just because it's simple and is universally understood. And also because I had a hard time keeping my own unique rating system straight in my brain. Ha! Note: I do make exceptions to that system because it's not totally perfect for me.
5.5 out of 5 stars – Fiction: *Mind blown* I loved this book wholeheartedly and unabashedly. It had me transfixed from the beginning and gained a seat in my favorite books of all time category which I keep in my head. At times reading the book, I had to stop and stare at the wall for a moment because I was so blown away. If a book gets this rating, it changed the way I think about things. (On Goodreads, these books will be 5-star books, but they will be shelved on my "favorites" shelf.)
Nonfiction: Loved this book and I learned a ton from it. Normally I read nonfiction to learn about something I have an interest in, and if I came away from it seeing the world differently, that book gets this rating. A nonfiction with a 10 may not mean I couldn't put it down – though sometimes it does – but I am gonna read it again and I probably proclaimed its amazing-ness to the world (or anyone who would listen).
5 out of 5 stars – Fiction: Awesome. I loved this book and will read it again and again. My bookshelf permanently gained another member.
Nonfiction: Super good book. I learned a lot from it, would read it again and was overall very satisfied.
4 out of 5 stars – Fiction: Good book. I enjoyed it a lot, and would most likely recommend it/read it again.
Nonfiction: Good book. I am glad I read it, and I learned from it, but might not read it again. It depends.
3 out of 5 stars – Fiction: Okay book. I liked some things but disliked others. Probably wouldn't recommend and wouldn't reread.
Nonfiction: Okay. It was fine. I wasn't super impressed with it, and probably caught myself thinking it was boring at some point.
2 out of 5 stars – Fiction: I disliked most things about this book. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever read, but definitely regretted reading it. I would recommend not reading it.
Nonfiction: Not for me. This book was either written in a way that made me feel like I was walking through a muddy field in rainboots #midwestproblem or I just plain lost interest in the topic. I won't be rereading.
1 out of 5 stars – Fiction: Totally hated it.
Nonfiction: Blech. This book felt like I was reading an algebra textbook. 'Nuff said.
